Cindy Jacobs On Releasing Critical Governmental Decrees

Many Christians know that we are commanded to pray for those in authority over us so “that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life” (1 Tim. 2:2 ESV). However, not many really know how to pray in an informed way for government leaders. Jon and Jolene Hamill don’t just read the Bible in this regard; they do the stuff! They fast, and they pray! They live their lives interceding for the White House, as well as Israel, Italy, and many other nations; so, don’t think that this book is not for you, wherever you may live.

The Bible is clear that humankind was called to “guard” the garden (Gen. 2:15 ISV). In fact, when you read Genesis, you see there was a snake in Adam and Eve’s home territory. Just as there was an enemy in the garden of Eden, there are enemies in our nations—enemies of corruption, poverty, racism, hatred, murder, etc. When God created our forebearers and placed them in the garden of Eden, He meant this garden to be a colony of Heaven for His children, a prototype for spheres and nations. It was created as perfect in the beginning.

Though most of our countries are not perfect today, we can still see Heaven released in them! We are empowered to disciple our nations to see God’s Kingdom manifested in the earth. Of course, we know that there is a present kingdom and a future Kingdom. Our job is to steward the days we live in and the land we inhabit.

The Hamills instruct us how to take care of and “tend” our gardens in prayer. They relate and protect us by showing possible entry points where satan could try and take us down while we are securing our perimeters.

One of the revelations that God has given many prayer leaders today is we have the power to make decrees over our governments (see Ps. 2:7–8). We are living in days of intense spiritual warfare, and we need to learn to live like Daniel. He was a man of great wisdom and tact. Each of us should seek God on how to be a person of an excellent spirit. Jon and Jolene, in this hour, have the wisdom of a “Daniel and Daniela”!

Their writing is personable. It is both full of admonitions and comfort. This is not a dry and sterile book of “how-tos” but a fascinating read.

The Hamills have held many meetings of intercession from their own home that overlooks the historic and iconic sites of Washington DC. I have stayed with them in their prophet’s quarter and gazed out at an inky, black night, lit by the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and the US Capitol Building.

In fact, the first time that I stayed with them and walked out on their enclosed veranda, the first words out of my mouth were, “Oh, wow!” (The story of how God did a miracle for them to obtain such a treasured piece of real estate in Washington DC is another miraculous testimony, but that is theirs to tell, perhaps, another time.)

I hope that I have whetted your appetite to delve into this remarkable book! Yours truly read it and loved it, and I have read quite a few books on the subject of intercessory prayer.

Standing on guard for the nations!

Cindy Jacobs
